22 (give or take) of the girls in my knitting group came by plane, train and automobile to Maryland Sheep and Wool. You heard them all in the opener.
On the Needles:
With my Twisted Sisters Petite Voodoo in Green Teas(e) and Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk in Kiwi, I am making the Cabled Feather Cowl.
What I also did was reorganize a few things in my projects page - I finally put the Pickadilly, the Fiddlehead Mittens and a French Press Cozy under hibernation.
Continuing the review of the spring and summer pattern releases - focusing on Knitty Spring + Summer 2011 this week. Really liking a lot of the sock patterns - all 4 are done in solid colored yarns and feature a lot of cables and texture in their patterns as opposed to lace. My two favorites are Ornamental and Susanna.
Lots of shawls as usual - the styling of the Omelet shawl is fun though I am more of a rectangular stole person myself. Really like the Rondeur Sweater - between this and knitscene there are PLENTY of short sleeve tees to knit up and you can even turn them into sweaters for the winter by nmaking the sleeves longer - even elbow length would be great.
Do want to mention a new pattern that came out recently from a New Zealand designer named Christine Jeffrey: the Colosseo Moebius cowl.
I went to Maryland Sheep and Wool this weekend! Saw 21 of the other girls in my knitting group, picked up yarn that I did not have in my stash and got some awesome tools.
Events and Knit-Along
Either he has finally accepted that I am a knitter and that the yarn will not go away, or the apocalypse has arrived - Mel, the ultimate disenabler has not only asked when Rhinebeck is, but if we can borrow my parents car to actually go up on Sunday, October 16. Won't be able to go to events like Black Sheep Gathering or Sock Summit sadly, but I am already going to start saving up my money in the jar again.
What I am really trying to do next year is to either go to Madrona or Stitches West - coincides with Midwinter Recess in the NYC school system which is from February 20-24, or Black Sheep which is at the end of June and school literally ends the day before. Yup, already looked at the calendar.
Bit of an update regarding the Rose Lace Stole Knit-A-Long: unfortunately, Kristin from the Yarngasm podcast won't be able to co-host the knit-along (yay wedding planning!!!) so I will be hosting it myself - welcome to the Yarngasm listeners!
Right now, the prizes stand as just the Velvet Hippo Stitch Markers, but I will keep you posted. Do post about your progress: any tips, knitting trainwrecks, what yarn you are using in the thread, and when you are done, post a photo of the FO in the Finished Shawl thread. Again, the KAL will end on June 30 and the thread will be closed that day; 2 winners will be chosen by RNG.
